Important Historical Milestones Of Our Ranch
In early January 2023, the Arroyo Seco region experienced severe flooding due to a series of atmospheric river events that brought heavy rainfall to Monterey County. On January 9, 2023, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders for low-lying areas along the Arroyo Seco River, highlighting the imminent threat to residents and infrastructure.
The deluge transformed typically calm streams into torrents, leading to significant damage throughout the area. Arroyo Seco Road, a vital route west of Greenfield, suffered extensive damage, including a washed-out section resulting in a 40-foot drop, rendering the road impassable. Repairs were extensive, and the road remained closed for over a year before reopening to all traffic.
Amid this devastation, the old water house faced unprecedented challenges. Floodwaters inundated the facility, causing substantial structural damage and rendering it unusable. However, this adversity sparked a transformative effort. Recognizing the pavilion’s importance to the community, the foundation embarked on a comprehensive renovation project. The restoration not only repaired the flood damage but also enhanced the pavilion’s accessibility and functionality. Today, the revitalized Dietz Pavilion stands as a testament to resilience and community spirit, offering an improved space for events and programs that serve underprivileged individuals and those with disabilities.
