This week, we had the privilege of welcoming kids from King City Youth Project to Coelho Ranch for a day filled with hiking, learning, creativity, and connection.
From the moment they arrived, there was a sense of excitement in the air. The kids came ready to explore, ask questions, and experience the ranch in a way that was both fun and meaningful.
The day included trail hikes, a horse demonstration, and time in the art park, where the kids had the opportunity to learn, create, and see the ranch from a different perspective.
One of the most memorable moments came as the group walked up the hill and turned the bend toward the art park. As they came around the corner and saw the Veiled Venus sculpture, their faces lit up. There was surprise, curiosity, and excitement all at once.
For many of the kids, it was not just about seeing a sculpture. It was about experiencing art in a natural setting, surrounded by open space, trees, trails, and the quiet beauty of the ranch. They had the chance to learn a little about the artwork, talk about its history, and then use that inspiration to create something of their own.
With canvases in front of them, acrylic colors spread out, and brushes in hand, the kids began applying their own styles and ideas. Some started carefully. Others jumped right in. They asked questions about mixing colors, trying different brush strokes, and how to make their paintings look the way they imagined.
The smiles on their faces said everything.
There is something powerful about giving children space to explore both the outdoors and their own creativity. A trail hike can teach confidence. A horse demonstration can teach patience and respect. A sculpture can spark curiosity. A blank canvas can become a place where a child feels free to express themselves.
That is what made this day so special.
At Coelho Ranch, we believe these moments matter. When children are given access to nature, art, animals, and hands-on learning, they are given more than a field trip. They are given a chance to see the world differently and to see themselves as part of something bigger.
We are grateful for our partnership with King City Youth Project and for the many organizations that continue to come alongside the ranch to serve children and families in our surrounding communities.
It is through these partnerships that children are provided for, the community is impacted, and our shared mission is brought to life.
This week was another reminder that when organizations work together with purpose, we can create experiences that are memorable, educational, and meaningful for the kids who need them most.
