There are moments when a partnership simply feels right from the beginning.
Recently, Coelho Ranch Foundation had the privilege of welcoming more than 40 staff members and coaches from First Tee Monterey County to the ranch for a day of exploration, team building, and connection. Representing programs in Salinas, King City, and Greenfield, the First Tee team spent the day familiarizing themselves with the ranch as we prepare for an exciting summer of youth programming together.

Building Relationships Before the Campers Arrive
The purpose of the visit was simple: give First Tee staff the opportunity to experience the ranch firsthand before welcoming campers this summer.
Throughout the day, coaches and staff explored the property, learned about the ranch’s mission, and participated in activities designed to encourage collaboration, creativity, and reflection. The group enjoyed a guided walk through the ranch, spent time along the Arroyo Seco River, shared ideas during team-building exercises, and enjoyed a ranch-prepared lunch together.
One of the highlights of the day was watching staff members gather along the creek, relax, and imagine the possibilities for the youth they serve. Conversations naturally turned toward how outdoor experiences can strengthen confidence, foster relationships, and create meaningful learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
A Shared Commitment to South Monterey County Youth
For the Coelho Ranch Foundation team, the visit reinforced something we already believed: First Tee Monterey County is doing remarkable work throughout our communities.
As Chad and Sami Dietz shared following the event:
“Seeing First Tee in action in South County gives us tremendous hope for what we can accomplish together.”
The positive energy, care, and commitment demonstrated by the First Tee staff throughout the day made it easy to envision the impact this partnership can have on local youth.
Nick Nelson, CEO of First Tee Monterey County, echoed that enthusiasm afterward, sharing that the day “exceeded our expectations” and highlighting the value of the team’s time together at the ranch.
Looking Ahead to Summer Field Trips
This visit marks only the beginning.
Starting this summer, First Tee Monterey County will bring youth groups to Coelho Ranch Foundation on a weekly basis, creating opportunities for campers to experience nature, outdoor learning, and hands-on activities in a safe and inspiring environment.
The ranch will serve as an outdoor classroom where young people can:
- Explore the natural environment of South Monterey County
- Participate in team-building and leadership activities
- Experience equine demonstrations
- Engage with sensory-based learning experiences
- Develop confidence, communication, and life skills
- Build meaningful connections with peers and mentors
As programming expands, both organizations are working together to enhance experiences across the ranch, including future improvements to the Sensory Trail, Art Park activities, and other educational opportunities.
More Than a Partnership
At its heart, this collaboration is about creating experiences that help young people grow.
When organizations with shared values come together, something special happens. The combination of First Tee’s youth development expertise and Coelho Ranch Foundation’s unique outdoor environment creates opportunities for young people to learn, connect, and thrive in ways that leave lasting impressions.
We are honored to welcome First Tee Monterey County to the ranch and look forward to an incredible summer filled with adventure, discovery, and unforgettable memories.
To the entire First Tee team—thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your commitment to the youth of Monterey County. We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.
