The River at the Heart of the Ranch
The Arroyo Seco is more than a waterway—it’s part of daily life at Coelho Ranch. The river shapes our landscape, supports local wildlife, and creates a peaceful setting for gatherings at the pavilion. From quiet walks to community events, this stretch of river invites reflection, connection, and care for the land.
The Arroyo Seco begins high in the Santa Lucia Mountains and flows roughly 40 miles before joining the Salinas River near Greenfield. Along the way, rainfall from mountain canyons and tributaries feeds the river, especially during winter and early spring.
Because the river is undammed, its flow responds directly to weather—meaning it can be dry in summer and powerful after storms. This natural rhythm is part of what makes the Arroyo Seco both beautiful and important to monitor.

During heavy rain, the Arroyo Seco can rise quickly. We encourage visitors to check river conditions—especially in winter—before planning activities near the water. This live camera is one of several tools we use to help keep our community informed and safe.
